How to Get Rid of Body Odor: Tips That *ACTUALLY WORK* So Well That You Can Skip Deodorant

Kind Friends, I am so excited to share this post with you! If you read my first body odor post, you know I've tried so many things to smell better, even eating two-three large oranges a day.

There were a lot of things that helped, but nothing was sustainable for me to add to my team daily, and 100% fool-proof.

Until now.

For the past two months I've been following a really simple routine that has gotten rid of my body odor nearly entirely. It's only three products!

It works so well, I stopped using deodorant.

I know, it's shocking. My mother wouldn't believe me if I told her, because she has a habit of telling me I smell. (If you are reading this mom, don't pretend it's not true! Don't worry, love you to pieces.)

Now that I know it has helped for a longer period of time, I'll stop the gate keeping and give you the easy routine.

  • Step One: Take a daily deodorant pill. Did everyone know these existed except for me? I'm surprised how well this works!

  • Step Two: Use dandruff shampoo under your arms instead of body wash.

  • Step Three: Use glycolic acid in place of deodorant. It's only $10 and perfect for sensitive skin! (I've been using this one for over three months now.)

All together - my three step body odor eliminating routine helps prevent most of the odor-causing toxins from hitting my skin, stops any bacteria that did make it to my sweat, and then prevents further bacteria growth by influencing my skin PH.

Let me tell you why each step works.

It Just Works Deodorant Pill Review

When I heard there was a deodorant pill, I was immediately intrigued. Was it full of harsh chemicals? Would it have side effects?

Neither! It Just Works Deodorant Pill perfect name) only has a few ingredients: Organic Parsley leaf, Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin, Organic Peppermint leaf, Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, Magnesium stearate.

Apparently, these powerhouse ingredients help to absorb the toxins that would cause BO before they hit the skin. They are also organic and vegan.

The directions are to take one a day, which has worked fine for me on most days, but they say you can also take two a day if you have stronger odor and need more support. If you take it twice a day, do it in the morning and at night. I prefer swallowing it as a pill, but you can also undo the cap and mix it in smoothies or water.

I subscribed to the membership, so my order is $29 a month. If you want to try it once, it'll be $35. Grab your own my with my link here if you want to try it. Report back what you think!

Why You Should Use Dandruff Shampoo As Body Wash If You Have BO

On my underarms and chest, I use dandruff shampoo instead of body wash to eliminate any bacteria that got onto those areas from my sweat. I sweat a lot when I work out and go on walks, and I try to clean up when I get back home, but I find that my sweat can still give me BO if I've been going hard on my fitness goals.

Ever since using dandruff shampoo as my body wash, I haven't had this problem. Using It Just Works got rid of 90% of the BO, but doing this hack got rid of the rest.

I'm currently using Yani Best's ginger dandruff shampoo (gifted), but you can try any from the store as well. I like the soft smell of the shampoo and how gentle it is.

I've read that doing this BO hack every day can cause drier skin in those areas, so proceed with caution if you are prone to skin irritation. However, I have sensitive skin and this hasn't been a problem with the product I'm using.

Using dandruff shampoo as body wash ended up being more effective than the hack to use acne face wash, that I talked about in the four BO hacks here.

Glycolic Acid as Deodorant

I was previously using Saltair's serum deodorant roller balls and truly loved them. They were the only natural deodorant that worked well on me, but I still needed to re-apply twice a day. I re=bought this product multiple times before trying this new glycolic acid hack.

If you aren't wanting to skip doedorant, read my original review of Saltair in the first BO post.

Because I was using this serum deodorant, I kept the glass and cleaned it out (yay for upcycling) and mixed inside The Ordinary's Glycolic Acid.

Don't let the word acid trip you up, Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acids (also one of the main ingredients in Saltair's serum deodorant, by the way) made from sugarcane. The product's low pH creates an environment where odor-causing bacteria cannot survive on your skin.

Using straight glycolic acid is really effective and good for my wallet. I use this one from Amazon. It's lasted me about three months so far and I may have another month left. This product is also a chemical exfoliant that can help with acne and wrinkles, should you want to try it on your face.

See how all that science worked together? I freaking love it.
